I'm a bit confused by the fact that manufacturers use their own package designations, which don't always match those defined by IPC standards or the PCB Libraries naming convention.

In particular, the TCAL9538DTUR is identified as:

  • DigiKey: 16-XFQFN
  • TI datasheet: X2QFN (DTU0016A)

However, to me, it looks more like a conventional LGA footprint, so I'm tempted to classify it as an LGA. The problem is that when searching the library, someone looking for this component based on the designation used by DigiKey or in the Texas Instruments datasheet would most likely search for QFN.

Perhaps it would be better to use a non-standard name that explicitly incorporates the package designation given by the manufacturer in the datasheet, such as X2QFN, rather than trying to force it into a standard package category. Alternatively, we could name it LGA16CP40_4X4_160X160X40L17.

you can name it with "manfcature name"_case code , so you can use this footrpint for all parts found in texas supplier and have this case code

"TI_DTU0016A"

Here's a list of Manufacturers and their abbreviated name -
https://www.pcblibraries.com/POD/MFR/" rel="nofollow - https://www.pcblibraries.com/POD/MFR/

Footprint Names for non-standard packages:
  • If the Case Code is associated with more than one part number - MfrName_MfrCaseCode
  • If the Case Code is only associated with one part number - MfrName_MfrPartNumber
Do not use the Case Code provided by Digikey. It does not match the mfr. datasheet.

If you want to know the real Case Code, go to https://www.pcblibraries.com/POD " rel="nofollow - www.pcblibraries.com/POD

Select a Manufacturer Name (do not enter a part number or case code) and select Search.

A list of every Case Code will appear.

A Case Code is normally located on the manufacturer datasheet page with the package dimensions.

All Connector Case Codes are the same as the Part Number.
