Auto-update is still alive and well. However, it only checks for update once every 7 days, not once per day as it did while the Footprint Expert was in Beta to keep everyone update on the latest release.

To get an email when updates are released:
  1. While logged in to the forum, click Member Control Panel Member Control Panel 
  2. Select "Subscriptions" tab
  3. In the 3rd section "Subscribe to Email Notification of New Posts", select "Version History"
You will be emailed each new post made to this Version History forum. You can do the same with other forums...

Has the auto-update feature in PCB Footprint Expert been changed or removed?
 
Within the program I can check for a new version and get a message that one is available. It no longer automatically downloads and installs the new version as it did during early Beta Testing.
(e.g.  updating from 2012.17 to current 2012.18)
 
Updating 2012.18 from forum "Version History" was successful.
